Iran Responds to US Proposal With Fresh Demands to End Regional Conflict

Iran submitted its response to the latest United States peace proposal on Sunday. Iranian officials called for an immediate end to the regional war and the release of frozen assets abroad.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei announced the details during a weekly press briefing on Monday. He said Iran sent its reply through Pakistani mediators. The response addressed a US framework aimed at ending hostilities that began earlier in 2026.

Baghaei stressed that Iran sought no concessions from the United States. He described the demands as Iran’s legitimate rights necessary for regional security.

Esmaeil Baghaei listed several conditions in Iran’s counterproposal. He demanded an end to the war across the region. He also called for the lifting of the US naval blockade on Iranian ports and an end to what he termed maritime piracy.

Baghaei further insisted on the release of Iranian assets that have remained frozen in foreign banks for years due to US pressure. He said these assets belonged to the Iranian people and described their continued blockage as unjust.

Iran also sought guarantees for safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and broader security arrangements in the region, including Lebanon. Officials presented these terms as a responsible offer to stabilise the area.

The exchange followed weeks of indirect negotiations mediated by Pakistan. A fragile ceasefire held in recent weeks, but both sides continued to press core positions. The US proposal reportedly included demands on Iran’s nuclear activities while offering possible sanctions relief and asset releases in return.

Iran maintained its response aligned with its sovereign rights. The development highlighted persistent gaps between the two sides even as diplomatic efforts continued.
