BREAKING: JAMB Announces 150 as New Minimum Score for University Admission

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board set 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2025/2026 academic session. Stakeholders reached the decision on Tuesday during the 2025 Policy Meeting on Admissions in Abuja.

Officials held the meeting at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre. Heads of tertiary institutions attended and participated in the process. JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede supervised the session.

The stakeholders fixed other benchmarks through a voice vote. They set 100 as the minimum for polytechnics and colleges of education. They also approved 140 for colleges of nursing sciences.

JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede oversaw the agreement. The board later released the details through its official channels. “The minimum admissible scores for admissions for the next academic session have been fixed at 150 for universities, 100 for polytechnics, 100 for colleges of education, and 140 for colleges of nursing sciences by the stakeholders,” JAMB stated.

Vice chancellors and heads of institutions adopted the minimum scores. However, many universities maintained higher benchmarks for specific programmes. For example, institutions such as the University of Lagos and the University of Ibadan continued to set their marks above 200 for competitive courses.

The development came as part of efforts to streamline the admission process. Candidates who scored below the approved minimums will not gain admission into the respective institutions. JAMB processes all admissions through its Central Admissions Processing System.
