Liverpool entered the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie already trailing 2-0 from the first leg in Paris. The Reds needed a comeback at a rain-soaked Anfield. They failed to score across 180 minutes against the defending champions.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Ousmane Dembélé opened the scoring in the 72nd minute. He latched onto a pass from Bradley Barcola and curled a precise left-footed shot from 20 yards into the bottom corner past goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. The goal ended Liverpool’s hopes of mounting a fightback.
Dembélé added a second goal in stoppage time. He slotted home a cross from Barcola to make the score 2-0 on the night and 4-0 on aggregate. The strike sent PSG into the semi-finals.
Liverpool started the second leg with intensity. They created chances through Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah. However, they lacked clinical finishing. A first-half penalty awarded to Alexis Mac Allister was overturned by VAR. The home crowd reacted with boos.
Liverpool suffered further setbacks. Forward Hugo Ekitike left the pitch in tears with an apparent Achilles injury after 31 minutes. Alexander Isak, returning from injury, came off at halftime. These blows left the Reds short of firepower.
PSG controlled key moments despite Liverpool’s pressure. Dembélé missed earlier opportunities in the first half but delivered when it mattered most. The French side finished with six shots on target compared to Liverpool’s five.
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique’s team now advances to face the winner of the Bayern Munich-Real Madrid tie. The holders secured their place in the last four with authority.
