Real Madrid took the lead in the first minute. Young midfielder Arda Guler fired the visitors ahead. Bayern Munich replied five minutes later. Aleksandar Pavlovic headed home from a Joshua Kimmich corner to make it 1-1.
Guler restored Real Madrid’s advantage on 29 minutes with a direct free-kick. Harry Kane, the Bayern Munich striker, equalised nine minutes later to send the Allianz Arena into raptures.
The score stood at 2-2 at that point. Kylian Mbappe, the Real Madrid forward, put the Spanish side back in front four minutes before half-time after a swift counter assisted by Vinicius Junior.
Both teams traded attacks after the break. Real Madrid received a red card and played with 10 men for much of the second period. The visitors held their narrow lead until the closing stages.
LLuis Diaz, the Bayern Munich winger, struck a powerful shot from the edge of the box in the 89th minute to level the match at 3-3. Michael Olise, introduced earlier, then rifled a left-footed effort into the far post in the fourth minute of stoppage time. The goal gave Bayern Munich a 4-3 win on the night and a 6-4 triumph on aggregate.
The result eliminated the 15-time European champions Real Madrid from the competition. Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany guided his side into the Champions League semifinals, where they will face Paris Saint-Germain. The Bavarians showed resilience throughout the tie after their 2-1 first-leg victory in Madrid the previous week.
