BREAKING: Troops Rescue Two Kidnap Victims in Kwara State Clearance Operation

Nigerian Army forces rescued two kidnapped civilians during a clearance patrol in Kwara State, marking the latest success in a sustained offensive against criminal networks in the North Central region.

Troops of the Nigerian Army serving under the Joint Task Force, North Central, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, rescued two kidnapped victims in Kwara State. The rescue occurred on June 3, 2026. Soldiers deployed at Patrol Base Babasango conducted an aggressive fighting patrol toward Gidan Dogo Ekaa axis.

During the movement, the troops encountered two men who had escaped from their abductors and were navigating through the terrain. The soldiers immediately secured the perimeter, verified their identities, and brought the men into protective custody.

The Nigerian Army identified the rescued individuals as Mr. Temitope Samuel, 42, and Mr. Mohammed Sani, 40. The military stated that both men had staged a daring escape from their captors‘ hideout. They were actively fleeing through the bush when they encountered the advancing troops.

Following their extraction from the field, troops transferred both men to Patrol Base Babanla. The Nigerian Army confirmed that Samuel and Sani are currently receiving comprehensive medical treatment to address physical exhaustion.

Troops also provided dedicated psychological support to help the men process the trauma of their captivity. The military added that arrangements are in motion to safely reunite both men with their families.

The Nigerian Army released a statement on its official X account on Saturday. The statement read, “This swift intervention highlights the Nigerian Army‘s relentless commitment to neutralizing threats and restoring peace in vulnerable communities.”

The statement continued, “Both men have been transferred to Patrol Base Babanla, where they are receiving comprehensive medical care, psychological support and all necessary assistance. Arrangements are now in full swing to reunite them safely with their families, ensuring their swift return to normal life.”

The Nigerian Army further stated, “We commend the gallant troops for their bravery and professionalism, while calling on the public to continue providing timely information that strengthens our collective fight against insecurity.”

The Nigerian Army said it remains resolute in its mandate to safeguard lives and property through sustained, intelligence-led operations under Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD. The rescue operation formed part of broader efforts to clear criminal corridors and restore stability to vulnerable communities across Kwara State.
