Apostle Johnson Suleman directly called on President Bola Tinubu to resign from office. The senior pastor and general overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International delivered this message during a sermon to his congregation. He argued that the president should step aside if his administration cannot tackle the country’s worsening insecurity.
Apostle Suleman pointed to terrorism sponsors as Nigeria’s core problem. He insisted that the government must go beyond fighting foot soldiers. He demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of those financing and arming violent groups.
“The sponsors of terrorism are our real problem. Go after them. If the President cannot deal with them, he should resign, let somebody else do it,” Apostle Suleman said.
The cleric then traced a direct link to the past recruitment of militants. He explained that many young attackers were products of an older network.
“The people you are facing now are the children of those terrorists who were six years old when they brought them in 2014, who have now grown to be 21 or 19 years old,” Apostle Suleman stated. “That’s why you see them, small, small boys carrying AK-47s. Go after the sponsors who empower them.”
However Apostle Suleman also praised Nigeria’s security agencies. He expressed confidence in their capability based on his personal travels.
“I have travelled to several countries and I can boldly tell you that the Nigerian Army, the police and the DSS are among the best in the world,” Apostle Suleman said. He maintained that a lack of political will, not a lack of competence, undermines their effectiveness.
