Nigeria defeated Jamaica 3-0 in the Unity Cup final on Saturday at The Valley in London. The Super Eagles claimed their fourth title in the tournament’s history and retained the crown they won the previous year.
Alhassan Yusuf, the New England Revolution midfielder, opened the scoring in the third minute. He reacted quickly to a rebound after Jamaican goalkeeper Coniah Boyce-Clarke parried a flick-on from a long throw. The goal gave Nigeria an immediate lead and put Jamaica on the back foot.
Nigeria maintained control throughout the first half. They limited Jamaica’s attacks and created several chances. However they only added to their lead after the break.
Terem Moffi, the Porto striker, doubled Nigeria’s advantage in the 59th minute. Femi Azeez delivered a precise cross from the left, and Moffi headed the ball home from close range. The goal came after Azeez beat his marker and reached the byline.
Coach Eric Chelle’s side continued to press forward. They substituted players effectively and kept possession well. Jamaica struggled to create clear scoring opportunities as the game progressed.
Alhassan Yusuf scored his second goal in the 91st minute. Substitute Philip Otele provided an accurate pass, and Yusuf finished calmly past the goalkeeper. The strike sealed a comfortable victory for Nigeria.
Nigeria won all four editions of the Unity Cup since the tournament began. They defeated Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semifinal to reach the final. The win boosted morale for the team ahead of future competitions.
