Peter Obi accepted the presidential ticket of the Nigeria Democratic Congress on Saturday. The former Anambra State governor made the declaration during the party’s special convention in Abuja. He outlined plans to tackle key national challenges.
Peter Obi thanked party leaders and supporters after his ratification as the candidate. He said, “It is with deep humility that I accept the role of presidential candidate for our party. I express my profound gratitude to the leaders of our party, His Excellency Seriake Dickson, the National Chairman, National Secretary and the National Working Committee members of our relentless supporters, and the Nigerian populace who have steadfastly kept the spirit of hope alive.”
Peter Obi vowed to end insecurity across Nigeria. He highlighted the need for safety so that citizens could move freely and mothers could send their children to school without fear. He positioned security as a top priority in his agenda for national renewal.
Peter Obi pledged to fix Nigeria’s power crisis. He committed to raising electricity generation and distribution to 10,000 megawatts within four years. He stated, “Over the next four years, I commit to ensuring a minimum of 10,000 MW power increase generation and distribution.”
Peter Obi unveiled an ambitious program that also targeted economic stagnation. He promised to address infrastructure deficits and improve living standards. The former Labour Party candidate stressed the importance of responsible leadership and national unity.
The ratification followed primaries where Peter Obi emerged as the sole aspirant for the ticket. Analysts noted his move from the Labour Party to the NDC ahead of the 2027 elections.
