Manchester United agreed a £50 million deal with Chelsea for midfielder Andrey Santos on Wednesday. The transfer includes an initial £48 million payment plus £2 million in add-ons. Chelsea also secured a 10 percent sell-on clause in the agreement.
The 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder agreed personal terms with Manchester United. He received permission from Chelsea to travel and undergo a medical with the club. Reports indicated that Santos will sign a five-year contract once the medical concludes successfully.
Andrey Santos joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in 2023. He made 27 Premier League appearances for the London club last season. The versatile midfielder also impressed during a loan spell at Strasbourg, where he contributed 12 goals and five assists in 45 games. He can play effectively as a No. 6 or No. 8.
Manchester United moved for Santos after Casemiro’s departure. The signing adds youth and dynamism to the midfield under manager Michael Carrick. Sources close to the deal described the transfer as a key part of United’s rebuild efforts.
Chelsea originally signed Santos for around £13 million. The club now stands to make a significant profit from the sale. Officials at Stamford Bridge viewed the deal as a strong financial outcome for a player who did not always secure regular first-team football.
The transfer marked one of the notable moves on a busy day in the summer window. Both clubs confirmed they reached full agreement on all terms.
