Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has donated a brand-new Toyota Hiace bus to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, to support the union’s activities.
The bus was presented to the NUJ in Asaba on Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon.
Speaking during the presentation, Ahon said the donation was in recognition of the cordial relationship between the Delta State Government and journalists in the state.
He said the vehicle was specifically provided for the use of the NUJ Delta State Council, adding that the governor hoped the gesture would strengthen cooperation between the government and the media.
“This bus donation is to you for the use of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State Council. This gesture is as a result of the good relationship that we have had over the years,” Ahon said.
He also conveyed Oborevwori’s expectation that the donation would foster a stronger partnership between the government and the media and contribute to the development of Delta State.
Receiving the bus, the Chairman of the Delta State NUJ Council, Churchill Oyowe, thanked the governor for fulfilling his promise to the union.
Oyowe described the donation as a demonstration of Oborevwori’s commitment to keeping his word.
“We are most grateful. What the Governor has done today is a demonstration of the fact that he promises and he delivers. He made his promise, and he has delivered,” he said.
The NUJ chairman said the donation went beyond providing the union with a vehicle, noting that the bus was brand-new and a modern model that would enhance the council’s activities.
“We want to say a big thank you to His Excellency for this gesture. We do not take it for granted, and we believe that it will further cement our cordial working relationship,” Oyowe added.
Oyowe also commended the Oborevwori administration for its development efforts across the state and expressed optimism that the government would record more achievements before the end of its tenure.
He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to maintaining a cordial relationship with the state government, saying journalists in Delta appreciated the partnership and support of the administration.
The NUJ chairman further thanked the Secretary to the State Government, the Commissioners for Works (Rural Roads) and Information, as well as the Chief Press Secretary, for their roles in ensuring that the donation was realised.
The donation is expected to improve the Delta NUJ Council’s mobility and support its activities across the state.
