Obi, Kwankwaso Planning ADC Exit on Monday — Galadima

Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, disclosed on Saturday that former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso will leave the ADC on Monday. Galadima made the revelation during discussions linked to the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement Unity Summit in Abuja.

Galadima stated that the decision followed growing disagreements over opposition coalition strategy and internal party issues. He added that the move aimed to secure a stronger platform for the 2027 presidential election. Sources close to the movement confirmed that stakeholders met at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano and sealed the plans.

The African Democratic Congress faced leadership challenges after a Supreme Court judgment. Galadima noted that these issues created uncertainties for opposition figures. He explained that Obi and Kwankwaso joined the ADC recently but encountered difficulties in aligning on key strategies, including the presidential ticket.

Transitioning to new options, talks with the National Democratic Congress reached advanced stages. Reports indicated discussions were about 90 percent complete. Supporters of both leaders prepared to follow them to the new platform.

At the summit themed around unity for 2027, Galadima urged members of the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement to prepare vigorously. He warned of tough battles ahead and called for strong action at polling units and collation centres. Galadima said, “Either they do what is right or we all die there so there will be no beneficiary.”

He stressed that no one would return to the Presidential Villa with a stolen mandate. The summit featured other speakers and highlighted the merger of support bases for Obi and Kwankwaso.

Political observers noted that the exit could reshape the opposition landscape. Lawmakers who joined the ADC with Obi and Kwankwaso also considered resignation. Efforts by some coalition leaders to prevent the move appeared unlikely to succeed.

As of Saturday, neither Obi nor Kwankwaso had issued a direct public confirmation. However, Galadima’s statement and ongoing preparations signaled an imminent change. The development reflected continued realignments among opposition politicians ahead of the general elections.
