According to a report by Infobae, Jorge died at about 10 p.m. on Friday at a clinic in Rosario, Argentina. He had reportedly been dealing with a prolonged illness before his death.
Jorge’s health became a subject of public attention during the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Lionel Messi became emotional following Argentina’s opening match against Algeria.
The 39-year-old football star had scored a hat-trick in Argentina’s 3-0 victory but was seen wiping tears from his face after scoring. Messi later explained that his emotions were connected to a personal situation and not football.
Days later, the Messi family confirmed that Jorge was undergoing medical treatment for an undisclosed health condition.
