Tottenham Hotspur secured their first Premier League win of the 2026-27 season with a 3-1 victory over Coventry City at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday.
James Maddison the midfielder marked his first competitive start since May 2025 with a stunning goal. Meanwhile, Dejan Kulusevski the forward returned after 526 days out with a patella injury.
Roberto De Zerbi the Tottenham manager selected Maddison to start against the club where his professional career began. In the 14th minute, Mohammed Kudus, the winger, beat his marker and laid the ball off. Maddison then curled a first-time right-footed shot from 22 yards into the top corner past Carl Rushworth, the Coventry goalkeeper.
The goal gave Tottenham their first lead of the Premier League season. Dominic Solanke the striker later had the ball in the net, but officials ruled it offside.

After the interval, Jack Rudoni the Coventry midfielder equalised four minutes into the second half. Tottenham responded quickly. Omar Marmoush the forward scored his first goal for the club in the 58th minute with a curling shot that restored the lead.
Kulusevski entered to loud applause later in the match. In stoppage time, Ben Davies the defender scored with a low drive that beat Rushworth and sealed the result.
The victory came at the seventh attempt and moved Tottenham off the bottom of the table. It also marked only their fourth home league win at the stadium since injuries to Maddison and Kulusevski in May 2025. Coventry, who arrived in good form, could not hold the point.
