The Enugu East Senatorial Zone declared its support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah in the 2027 general elections on Saturday. The zone also donated N300 million to bolster Governor Mbah’s re-election campaign.
Leaders and stakeholders announced the decision during a solidarity rally at Okpara Square in Enugu. The zone includes Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Isi-Uzo, Nkanu East, and Nkanu West Local Government Areas.
Senator Kelvin Chukwu, the senator representing Enugu East, formally moved the motion endorsing President Tinubu for a second term. Mr. Nnolim Nnaji, the member representing Nkanu East/Nkanu West Federal Constituency, seconded the motion.
Similarly, Mr. Iloabuchi Aniagu, the member representing Nkanu West State Constituency, moved the motion for Governor Mbah. Following that, Mr. Anthony Mbah, the member representing Nkanu East State Constituency, seconded it.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani described Governor Mbah as a visionary leader with a strong capacity for implementation. “Mbah has demonstrated the qualities of a leader with clear vision and the ability to execute policies effectively,” Nnamani said.
Furthermore, former Governor of old Anambra State Jim Nwobodo stated that Mbah deserved another term. “We have no other governorship candidate in Nkanu land and Enugu State other than Peter Mbah. He must complete another four years in office,” Nwobodo declared.
On behalf of House of Representatives members from the zone, Mr. Nnaji stated that the endorsement rested on performance and good governance. “We are here not because Peter Mbah is our brother. We are here to celebrate performance, good governance and transformational leadership,” Nnaji explained.
Governor Mbah expressed gratitude for the endorsement. He recalled his administration’s achievements, including Smart Green Schools and primary healthcare reforms. The governor described the rally as a vote of confidence in his administration.
