The Federal Government pledged equal opportunities for every Nigerian child during the 2026 National Children’s Day celebration. Officials gathered at Eagle Square in Abuja on May 27 to mark the occasion under the theme “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child.”
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu sent a strong message through representatives. The government stressed that every child deserves access to quality education, healthcare, and protection regardless of background.
Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, represented President Tinubu. She said the celebration aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda. Sulaiman-Ibrahim added that the government prioritised child development and inclusive education.
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, described the day as both a celebration and a call to action. Wike stated that every Nigerian child deserved equal opportunity, protection, care, and access to a brighter future.
Moreover, the government reaffirmed its commitment to building a Nigeria where children thrive without discrimination. Officials noted ongoing efforts in child-focused planning and innovative financing for better outcomes.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, also addressed participants. She urged protection, nurturing, and investment in children so they reached their full potential.
The Federal Government used the event to highlight policies that promote inclusion. These steps aim to ensure no child faces barriers due to location, ability, or socioeconomic status.
As activities ended, the government promised continued work to safeguard children’s rights. Nigerian children joined march pasts and performances that showcased their talents and hopes for the nation.
