Switzerland took control early. In the 10th minute, Johan Manzambi drove into the penalty area and cut the ball back from the byline. Breel Embolo finished from close range to give his team a 1-0 lead. The goal came after sustained pressure and highlighted Switzerland’s clinical attacking play.
Switzerland doubled their advantage shortly after the interval. Within the first minute of the second half, Dan Ndoye swept home a rebound from a cross to make it 2-0. The quick start to the half caught Algeria off guard and effectively decided the match.
Algeria held more possession but created few clear chances. Coach Vladimir Petkovic had prepared his side well, yet they failed to break down Switzerland’s defense. Players such as Riyad Mahrez pushed forward, but the Desert Warriors could not find the net. Algeria exited the tournament without a knockout-stage victory.
Coach Murat Yakin’s team remained solid throughout. They now prepare to face either Colombia or Ghana in the Round of 16. The win extended Switzerland’s unbeaten run at the 2026 tournament and confirmed their place among the last 16 for the fourth successive World Cup.
