Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated Egypt 6-2 on Tuesday and advanced to the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The match took place at Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca. The 10-time African champions needed the victory after an earlier loss to Malawi and a win over Zambia.
Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring in the 21st minute. She converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review for handball.
Later, substitute Gift Monday doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time. She finished a cross from Rinsola Babajide.
Egypt responded before the break. Nadine Ghazi scored from the penalty spot following another VAR check. The teams went into half-time with Nigeria leading 2-1.
Nigeria restored control after the restart. Uchenna Kanu scored in the 57th minute. She capitalised on a defensive opening created by Rinsola Babajide.
Christy Ucheibe then converted a penalty in the 81st minute to make it 4-1. Ghazi pulled one back for Egypt in the 84th minute. She made the score 4-2.
Captain Rasheedat Ajibade responded in the first minute of added time. She calmly converted another penalty to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Deep in stoppage time, Ajibade set up Joy Omewa. Omewa scored the sixth goal and completed the emphatic win.
Nigeria finished the group stage with six points from three matches. The team recorded 59 per cent possession and dominated the attacking statistics.
The result sent the Super Falcons into the last eight of the continental tournament. Egypt ended the group without a point.
