President Donald Trump directed his administration to request more than one point four billion dollars in emergency funding from Congress. A Trump administration official stated that the funds would address the widening Ebola virus outbreak in Africa. The request included eight hundred million dollars for humanitarian crisis response.
The move came after French health authorities confirmed the country’s first Ebola case. Officials reported that a doctor who returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo tested positive for the virus.
French health ministry spokespersons added that the patient remained in stable condition in isolation and that authorities traced contacts to limit spread.
The outbreak linked to the rare Bundibugyo strain continued to grow rapidly. World Health Organization representatives noted that it infected more than one thousand people and caused two hundred sixty seven deaths. They described it as the fastest growing Ebola outbreak in Africa’s history during the first month.

Administration officials highlighted that the funding would support containment efforts and protect against international spread following the case in France. They stressed ongoing coordination with international partners to manage the crisis.
