President Bola Tinubu appointed Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President. Yakubu Jang is the son of former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the appointment on Saturday. He delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the President at the 80th birthday celebration and book launch of Chief Jonah Jang in Jos, Plateau State.
The event took place at the Tamarald Event Centre in Jos. It drew Vice President Kashim Shettima, former President Goodluck Jonathan, governors, federal and state government officials, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
Vice President Kashim Shettima stated, “On behalf of Mr President, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Yakubu Jang as Senior Special Assistant in the Office of the President.”
He added that the appointment reflected the President’s recognition of capacity, loyalty and the need to accommodate diverse voices in governance. Guests at the ceremony, including political leaders and associates of the Jang family, welcomed the news with applause.
The appointment came on the same day political leaders gathered to honour the elder statesman. Chief Jonah Jang had served decades in the Nigerian Air Force, as Military Administrator, two-term governor of Plateau State and as a senator.
Former Governor Jonah Jang, who turned 80, also unveiled his autobiography, titled “Airman to Politics: My Life”, during the event. The gathering marked both personal milestone and recognition of sustained public contributions.
