Several players of Nigeria’s senior women’s national football team, the Super Falcons, have reportedly raised concerns after alleging that more than $1,200 was stolen from their rooms at the team’s hotel in Casablanca, Morocco, where they are preparing for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
According to reports, the players discovered that cash had gone missing from their wallets while they were away from their hotel rooms. The incident is alleged to have occurred at the Marriott Hotel, where the team has been camped ahead of the continental tournament.
Among the reported losses, forward Esther Okoronkwo allegedly lost $700, captain Rasheedat Ajibade reported $200 missing, while Osinachi Ohale, Joy Omewa, and Halimatu Ayinde allegedly lost $100, $120, and $100 respectively. The combined reported losses amount to approximately $1,220.
The affected players are said to have reported the matter after discovering the missing cash, with some expressing dissatisfaction over the initial response they received. However, neither the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) nor the hotel management had issued an official statement on the alleged incident as of the time of filing this report.
The incident comes just days before the Super Falcons begin the defence of their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title. Nigeria, the tournament’s most successful nation, is scheduled to compete in Group C alongside Malawi, Zambia, and Egypt.
Authorities are expected to investigate the allegations as the team continues its preparations for the competition.
