Nigeria’s Super Falcons players received the naira equivalent of $100,000 each on Monday. Their coaches and officials received the equivalent of $50,000 each. This completed the cash component of President Bola Tinubu’s reward package for the team’s victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The National Sports Commission announced the payments in a statement. Officials said the Federal Government had fulfilled the President’s financial commitment to the squad following their record-extending 10th WAFCON title.
The players had earlier received title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja. They also obtained certificates for the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger. These formed part of the original reward package.
Meanwhile, the cash payments marked the final stage of the commitments made after the tournament.
Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, thanked President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling the promise. He recognised the team’s achievement.
Shehu Dikko said, “The Super Falcons made Nigeria proud, and Mr President has honoured his commitment to them in full. This means a great deal to the team and to Nigerian sports. We sincerely thank Mr President for recognising their achievement and directing that they received everything promised to them in record time.”
President Bola Tinubu announced the rewards at a presidential reception for the team on July 28, 2025. He promised each player the naira equivalent of $100,000. Members of the technical crew were to receive $50,000 each. He also awarded the apartments and the OON national honour.
The Super Falcons secured the title with a 3-2 comeback victory over hosts Morocco in the final. The win extended their record as Africa’s most successful women’s national team.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade expressed appreciation for the fulfilment of the pledge. She described the payment as recognition of the team’s achievement and contribution to Nigerian sports.
The payments followed similar rewards given to other national teams under the current administration.
