Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume condemned the killing of Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria Ardo Mohammed. He described the incident as a direct threat to the state’s fragile peace.
Gunmen ambushed Ardo Mohammed and his companion Yakubu Isa on Friday. The victims were returning from a peace meeting in Otukpo Local Government Area when attackers struck their vehicle near Okudu community. Ardo Mohammed’s eldest son confirmed the details in a telephone interview with journalists.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume called the killing reprehensible and unacceptable. He stated that the act represented a direct assault on peace, reconciliation, and mutual trust in Benue State. He demanded swift justice for the perpetrators.
Benue State Police Command launched an immediate investigation. Police teams arrested 10 suspects in Otukpo following intelligence operations. Authorities described the arrests as a major breakthrough and continued efforts to apprehend others involved.
The killing occurred amid ongoing peace initiatives in the state. Ardo Mohammed had actively participated in meetings to promote coexistence among communities. His death triggered tension in Otukpo and neighbouring areas.
