Several Injured as Suspected Bandits Attack Sunday Igboho’s Security Team in Oyo Forest

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, leads the Iru Ekun private security network. Suspected cross-border bandits ambushed members of his team during an operation in the Old Oyo National Park in Oyo State. The clash left several operatives injured.

The Iru Ekun team entered the vast forest reserve to track and dislodge suspected kidnappers and armed criminals. Sources said the operatives first deployed surveillance drones to identify hideouts. However, heavily armed bandits opened fire on the advancing team. A fierce gun battle followed.

Bandits shot several Iru Ekun members during the exchange. Reports indicated that one operative sustained multiple gunshot wounds, though accounts claimed bullets failed to penetrate due to alleged spiritual fortification.

Rescue efforts followed, and medical teams evacuated the injured to facilities in Oyo State for treatment. Exact casualty figures remained unconfirmed at the time of reporting.

Sunday Igboho formed Iru Ekun to address rising insecurity in South-West forests. The group launched operations after mass abductions in the Oriire area. Igboho earlier stated, “We’ve started already, there’s no delay. Anyone found in any of our forests is a criminal.” The ambush occurred amid ongoing tensions over private security activities in the region.

Authorities have not issued official statements on the incident. The event highlights persistent challenges with banditry in Oyo State’s forest areas.
