The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources Downstream launched investigations into two petitions on Monday.
Ikenga Ugochinyere, Chairman of the committee, announced the decision during a technical briefing that marked the end of Downstream Week 2026 in Abuja.
The first petition sought the investigation, suspension and cancellation of gas distribution licences held by NIPCO Plc. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority issued the licences for Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and Osun states as well as the Lagos and Lekki Free Trade Zones.
The committee formed two sub-committees to handle the matters. Peter Aniekwe chaired the panel examining the NIPCO petition. Shehu Dalhatu served as deputy chairman.
Meanwhile, the second petition accused Mumuni Dagazau, Executive Vice President Downstream of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, of money laundering and abuse of office.
Aliyu Al-Mustapha chaired the sub-committee looking into those claims. The panel received seven days to conduct a preliminary investigation and report its findings to the main committee.
Ugochinyere described the complaints as serious matters that required urgent attention. He stated that the allegations against Dagazau had not been established. The investigation would determine the merits of the claims.
In addition, the committee said it would give all parties a fair opportunity to present their positions. Neither NIPCO Plc nor Dagazau had publicly responded to the petitions at the time of the announcement.
The lawmakers linked the probes to concerns over transparency and regulatory oversight in the downstream petroleum sector. They stressed that accountability remained a legislative priority.
