Paris Saint-Germain secured a place in consecutive UEFA Champions League finals on Wednesday. The French side drew 1-1 with Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena to progress 6-5 on aggregate.
Ousmane Dembélé gave Paris Saint-Germain the lead in the first half. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia assisted the goal as the visitors controlled large parts of the opening period. The strike built on PSG’s 5-4 victory from the first leg in Paris the previous week.
Coach Luis Enrique praised his team’s discipline after the match. “We stayed compact and executed our plan,” Luis Enrique said.
Harry Kane equalized for Bayern Munich later in the game. The England striker converted a chance to give the home side hope. However PSG defended resolutely and limited clear opportunities for the German champions.
Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany reflected on the tie. “We gave everything but PSG were clinical in both legs,” Vincent Kompany said.
The 1-1 result sent Paris Saint-Germain through. The team became the first defending champions to reach back-to-back finals in recent seasons. They will face Arsenal in the final at Puskas Arena in Budapest on May 30.
Paris Saint-Germain showed strong character throughout the semifinal. Players celebrated at the final whistle as they booked their ticket to the showpiece match. The club now aims to defend its title against a resilient Arsenal side.
