The Anambra State Government urged residents on Monday to resist former governor Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election. Officials accused Obi of working to destroy the All Progressives Grand Alliance since he left the party in 2014.
In a post on its official X handle, the government stated that a vote for Obi and the Nigeria Democratic Congress amounted to a vote to kill APGA. The post declared that Obi had pursued one mission since 2014. That mission was to destroy the party that made him.
Officials pointed to Obi’s actions during the 2025 governorship election. They noted that while President Bola Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed the opposition in an effort to bury the party. The government recalled that Obi had served as Anambra governor under APGA before his defection.
The post further warned voters not to be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. It stated that Anambra is APGA and called on Ndi APGA to defend their home by resisting the NDC.
Governor Charles Soludo had previously stated that Obi had campaigned and done everything to kill APGA since leaving the party. Soludo recalled that Obi supported Val Ozigbo of the PDP against him in 2021 and later backed George Moghalu of the Labour Party in 2025. In both cases, Soludo won by a landslide.
National Publicity Secretary of APGA Mazi Ejimofor Opara had also described an APGA vision that remained dead for seven years and six months under Obi. Opara said this situation led to the general pauperization of the party and the state. He added that anyone who voiced discontent faced marked destruction at the time.
The government presented these statements as grounds for the electorate to reject Obi’s candidacy.
