Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, dismissed allegations of planned election malpractice on Thursday. He spoke at the flag-off of the reconstruction of the 82-kilometre Osogbo–Iwo–Ibadan Road and the rehabilitation of the Gbongan–Osogbo Road.
Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier alleged that the APC planned to rig the August 15 election. Adeleke maintained that he would win in a free and fair contest.
Oyebamiji rejected the claims and accused the governor of spreading unfounded statements. He said the governor acted out of fear of defeat.
“Governor Adeleke is confused; that is why he is talking about rigging. The people of Osun will decide this election with their votes. We are appealing to our supporters to remain peaceful and concentrate on mobilising voters rather than confronting anyone,” Oyebamiji said.
He added that his campaign focused on grassroots mobilisation across the state. The candidate expressed confidence that support from residents would secure victory for the APC.
Furthermore, Oyebamiji urged party supporters to avoid confrontation and instead intensify voter outreach. He argued that an APC victory would improve relations with the Federal Government and bring more infrastructure projects to Osun.
He promised prudent management of public resources if elected. According to him, every expenditure would target the welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, Oyebamiji claimed his team had received widespread support in all 30 local government areas. He stated that the party had engaged residents on inclusive governance and expressed optimism about the outcome of the poll.
The August 15 election will decide the next governor of Osun State. Both candidates have continued to campaign across the state in the final days before the vote.
