OFFICIAL: Michael Carrick Named New Manchester United Manager

Manchester United confirmed Michael Carrick as the club’s new manager on Thursday. The appointment ends months of speculation after the former midfielder served successfully as interim head coach.

Michael Carrick stepped in during January 2026 after the club dismissed Ruben Amorim. He guided Manchester United to 10 wins in 15 Premier League matches. The results lifted the team to third place and secured Champions League qualification for next season.

Club officials praised the stability Carrick brought. Chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox recommended him for the permanent role to minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. They highlighted his tactical clarity and player management.

Michael Carrick welcomed the confirmation. He said the opportunity to lead Manchester United filled him with pride. Carrick added that he looked forward to building on the recent progress with the squad.

Captain Bruno Fernandes backed the decision. Fernandes described Carrick as an intelligent coach who brought calmness to the dressing room. Other senior players also expressed support for continuity ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United offered Michael Carrick a two-year contract with an option for a third year. Assistants, including Jonathan Woodgate, are set to join him on new deals. The club now turns its focus to squad strengthening for the 2026-27 campaign.

The move marks a new chapter for the Premier League giants. Fans hope Carrick’s deep club knowledge will deliver sustained success at Old Trafford.
