Chelsea confirmed the appointment of Calum McFarlane as interim head coach on Tuesday. The club and McFarlane agreed to a deal that runs until the end of the current season. All parties finalized the terms without any extension clause.
The negotiations concluded after a series of discussions. Meanwhile McFarlane will lead the first team for the remaining fixtures. Chelsea’s board approved the arrangement unanimously.
Calum McFarlane expressed his readiness to take charge. “I am fully prepared to guide this team through the rest of the season,” McFarlane said. He added that his immediate priority is stability and results.
Chelsea sporting director, Paul Winstanley, confirmed the unanimous decision. “The board and Calum McFarlane reached a full agreement on the interim role,” Winstanley stated. He further explained that the short term arrangement provides continuity. “We believe Calum McFarlane has the necessary experience for this task,” Winstanley added.
Meanwhile senior players welcomed the decision. Defender, Thiago Silva, voiced his support. “Calum McFarlane knows the squad well, and we trust his leadership,” Silva said.
McFarlane will take charge of training immediately. His first match in the interim role comes on Saturday against Wolverhampton. The club plans no further coaching changes before the season ends.
