Obi Promises Strong Crackdown on Terrorism If Elected President

African Democratic Congress presidential aspirant Peter Obi vowed to declare war on terrorists if elected president in 2027. He made the pledge on Monday during an interview on Arise News. Obi stressed that Nigeria had reached a point that demanded firm measures with no room for negotiation.

Peter Obi said leaders must act decisively on security. He pointed to the recent loss of about ten senior security officers as a clear trigger for national resolve. No nation will lose about ten of its senior officers and will not declare war, Obi stated. I will declare war, he added.

Obi recalled his experience as governor of Anambra State. He faced serious insecurity and secured approval from then President Olusegun Obasanjo to take strong steps.

As a result, the state recorded no major robbery or kidnapping incidents for five years. Obi named retired General Eneche, late John Haruna and late Commissioner Bello as witnesses to the success.

Moreover, Obi explained that today’s insecurity grew from years of eroded governance and values. He noted the neglect of youths, poor education and broken social trust as main causes. These problems formed the cumulative effect of leadership failure over time, Obi said.

Additionally, Obi promised to secure the north and turn it into a productive powerhouse. He called for fresh investments in agriculture, education and health.

Agriculture in the north can generate more revenue than oil, Obi declared. He urged Nigerians to choose leaders based on competence rather than ethnicity or religion.
