Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and a national leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, delivered a strong message to PDP candidates on Wednesday. He spoke during the party’s 109th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
Wike told PDP candidates that nobody would gift them power. He declared that political power must be taken through effort. “Nobody gives power. Power is taken. You must fight for it to take it,” Wike said. He added that no one was ready to hand over power easily. Candidates needed to prepare for a tough battle.
Wike stressed the importance of resilience. “Nobody gives power, and nobody is ready to dash you power. You have to struggle for it. You have to fight for it. You don’t have to be afraid,” he stated. He urged party members to focus on results rather than excuses as they prepared for the 2027 general elections.
Wike also touched on ongoing internal disputes within the PDP. He insisted that the party remained on course despite court cases and legal challenges. Transitioning to broader strategy, he called for strong grassroots mobilisation. Party leaders listened as Wike emphasised unity and hard work.
Meanwhile, the NEC meeting provided a platform for PDP stakeholders to align on electoral plans. Wike challenged candidates to embrace sacrifice. He highlighted that victory came through determination in opposition politics.
PDP officials used the meeting to reinforce commitment to fielding candidates across various levels. Wike’s remarks motivated attendees to build strength at state and local levels. The party aimed to make a significant impact in the upcoming polls.
These developments showed the PDP’s push to regroup ahead of 2027. Candidates left the meeting with clear directives to work hard and stay focused. The party continued its preparations amid political dynamics in Nigeria.
