The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control launched an upgraded version of its Med Safety App yesterday. The move aimed to improve reporting of fake drugs and adverse reactions across Nigeria.
Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, announced the launch during an official event. She stated that the improved app featured a more user-friendly interface and a simplified reporting process. “This upgrade empowers healthcare professionals and the public to report suspected substandard and falsified medical products quickly and securely,” Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said.
The agency developed the new version to address previous limitations. Users can now upload photographs of suspicious products and provide relevant details that support faster investigations. In addition, the app includes enhanced data management and better feedback mechanisms.
Officials explained that the upgrade followed extensive consultations with stakeholders. Healthcare workers and ordinary citizens welcomed the changes. They noted that the previous version already helped collect vital safety data, but the new one made the process even easier.
Transitioning to the upgraded platform required users to uninstall and reinstall the app for full functionality. NAFDAC encouraged.
The launch formed part of broader efforts to protect public health. Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye added that timely reports helped the agency track adverse drug reactions and remove dangerous products from the market swiftly.
Health experts believe wider adoption of the app will reduce risks from counterfeit medicines. NAFDAC urged all Nigerians to download the tool and use it whenever they suspected a problem with any medical product.
