Stella Okafor, the widow of late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, spoke out about the mounting financial difficulties her family encountered. She made the appeal in a recent video interview. Mr Ibu died on March 2, 2024, after a prolonged illness.
Stella Okafor explained that the family lived without electricity for about two months. Power supply officials disconnected the line over unpaid bills. “They have even cut my lights for two months now,” she stated. The family also fetched water from a well because they could not pay the house rent.
Stella Okafor added that unpaid school fees threatened her children’s future. She said the children faced suspension from school. “Right now, they can’t go to school again,” she noted. One of the children praised their mother’s efforts. The child said she tried everything to feed them and pay school fees.
Stella Okafor called on Nigerians, fans, and well-meaning individuals for assistance. She sought help to settle rent, clear school fees, and restore electricity.
The family highlighted these needs after more than a year since Mr Ibu’s passing. Supporters aimed to prevent further disruption to the children’s education and living conditions.
John Okafor entertained millions through his comic roles in over 200 films. His death left the family in hardship despite his long career. Stella Okafor and the children shared their situation openly.
They hoped for contributions to ease their immediate burdens. The appeal drew attention across social media platforms in late June 2026.
