The Nigerian military conducted a precision air strike that killed nine fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and destroyed several vehicles in Borno State. The operation took place in a remote area of the state, where intelligence reports indicated active terrorist movements.
Military officials said the air component of Operation Hadin Kai carried out the strike after surveillance identified ISWAP fighters and their logistics assets. The attack neutralized the fighters and eliminated vehicles used for mobility and supply runs.
Major General Edward Chukwuka, a spokesman for the Defence Headquarters, confirmed the outcome. “The precision engagement resulted in the elimination of nine terrorists and the destruction of their vehicles,” he stated. He added that the action disrupted planned attacks in the region.
The strike formed part of ongoing efforts to weaken ISWAP operations across the Lake Chad basin. Nigerian troops worked to deny terrorists safe havens and limit their ability to regroup.
Analysts noted that such air operations reduced the group’s capacity to launch raids on civilian communities and military positions. In previous similar actions, forces destroyed camps and logistics bases, which forced ISWAP to adjust tactics.
Residents in affected areas reported improved security following the strike. However, challenges persisted as terrorists occasionally attempted reprisals.
The military emphasized that ground and air forces continued coordinated patrols. Officials vowed to sustain pressure on ISWAP remnants to restore peace in Borno and neighboring states.
This latest success highlighted the effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations in the northeast counter-insurgency campaign. Nigerian authorities called for continued public support to achieve lasting stability.
