Manchester United secured the majority of the land required to build a new 100,000-seater stadium. The club announced the milestone on Monday. This development marked a significant step in plans to create a world-class venue close to the current Old Trafford ground.
The club acquired a 25-acre site located approximately 350 metres north-west of Old Trafford. Manchester United purchased the land from Indurent, a leading provider of industrial space and a Blackstone portfolio company. Officials described the deal as critical for delivering a modern stadium that honoured the club’s heritage while preparing for future demands.
Collette Roche, Manchester United stadium development CEO, stated that securing the right land remained absolutely critical. She added that the acquired site provided the foundation for a truly world-class stadium.
The move formed part of a larger 370-acre regeneration project. Authorities expected the initiative to deliver around 15,000 new homes, including affordable housing options. It also aimed to create 48,000 new jobs in the local area. Plans originated from recommendations by the 2025 Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force.
Architectural firm Foster + Partners designed the proposed stadium, which featured a canopy and capacity for 100,000 spectators. Club leaders positioned the project as the future “Wembley of the North.” The estimated cost reached around £2 billion, though funding details remained under discussion.
Manchester United continued work on planning and additional land requirements. Officials targeted a formal planning application in the coming months. Construction timelines pointed toward a potential opening in the early 2030s, subject to approvals and financing.
Fans welcomed the progress as a boost for the club’s long term ambitions. The new venue promised enhanced atmosphere, affordability, and accessibility while maintaining connections to the club’s storied past.
