President Bola Tinubu forwarded two separate nomination letters to the Senate on Wednesday, requesting the confirmation of a new minister and a deputy governor for the Central Bank of Nigeria.
In his first correspondence, President Tinubu asked the upper legislative chamber to screen and confirm Muttaqha Rabe Darma as a minister. Specifically, the President nominated Darma as the Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s letter on the floor. Afterward, Senator Akpabio referred the request to the Committee of the Whole for further legislative action.
Similarly, President Tinubu sent a separate letter to the Senate regarding the apex bank. He sought the chamber’s approval for the appointment of Lamido Abubakar Yuguda as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Senator Akpabio directed the nomination to the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions. Furthermore, the committee received a mandate to report back within one week.
The ministerial nominee, Muttaqha Rabe Darma, holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bayero University Kano. Meanwhile the CBN nominee, Lamido Abubakar Yuguda, brings considerable experience to the role.
He previously served as the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission. Moreover Yuguda spent over three decades working at the Central Bank of Nigeria earlier in his career.
