“I’m Running to Win,” Sowore Declares Ahead of 2027 Presidential Race

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election. He made the announcement during an interview on Channels Television on May 22, 2026. Sowore, who serves as the leader of the African Action Congress, stated clearly that he aimed for victory.

Omoyele Sowore told viewers, “I am running to win.” He added that all political parties remained equal. He explained that better candidates with strong ideas should win elections in Nigeria. Sowore stressed that citizens deserved fresh leadership. He positioned his bid as a chance to bring real change after previous contests in 2019 and 2023.

Omoyele Sowore confirmed that the African Action Congress would hold its primaries the following week. He noted that the party had already started preparations. Sowore said the process would allow members to choose their candidate. He had run under the same platform before and received modest votes in past elections.

Omoyele Sowore argued that Nigerians could not survive under the same failed political class. He criticized major politicians for policies that increased poverty and insecurity. He promised bold ideas and anti-corruption measures if elected. Sowore emphasized that his consistent advocacy set him apart from others who appeared only during election seasons.

Several political actors have begun positioning themselves for the 2027 race. Sowore joined this early race with a firm declaration. His announcement highlighted ongoing debates about leadership and accountability in Nigeria.
