Chelsea secured a convincing 3-0 victory over AC Milan in the Indonesia Super Cup on Saturday at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta. The pre-season match drew a large crowd and marked a strong performance under new coach Xabi Alonso.
Joao Pedro opened the scoring and later added a second goal. Moises Caicedo completed the rout with a powerful volley. Meanwhile, Chelsea controlled much of the play and limited Milan to few clear chances.
Chelsea applied early pressure and created several opportunities. Milan goalkeeper Lorenzo Torriani made saves to keep the score level. However, Joao Pedro finally broke through in first-half stoppage time. He headed home from a Moises Caicedo corner to give Chelsea a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Brazilian forward had already tested Torriani earlier in the half. Chelsea maintained a high press and forced Milan into defensive positions.
Chelsea struck again just one minute after the restart. Pedro Neto delivered a precise cross from the right. Joao Pedro converted from close range for his second goal of the night.
Four minutes later, Moises Caicedo made it 3-0. He struck a sharp volley from the edge of the box after a corner. Chelsea continued to threaten and hit the post later through substitutes. Milan made several changes but struggled to create meaningful attacks.
Before the match, Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso spoke about the importance of the visit. “This is the perfect time to get close to these supporters that they are from Indonesia or they can come tomorrow to Jakarta,” Alonso said. He added that football is global and that the club feels strong support everywhere.
Chelsea next face Johor Darul Ta’zim in Malaysia as their Asian pre-season tour continues. The result provided a positive boost after recent friendly defeats.
