Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, disbursed N50 million to 1,000 petty traders in Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Wednesday. The programme took place under her Renewed Hope Initiative.
The event held at Kensington Hall inside the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife. Each beneficiary received N50,000 to support and expand existing businesses.
Alhaja Kudirat Fakokunde, the All Progressives Congress Women Leader in Osun, represented the First Lady. She urged the beneficiaries to invest the grants wisely.
Senator Tinubu noted that the intervention aimed to improve their economic well-being and family welfare.
Meanwhile, Dr Sekinat Oyebamiji, wife of the APC governorship candidate in Osun, encouraged the traders. She told them to use the N50,000 to grow their businesses.
In addition, Mrs Kafayat Oyetola, wife of Adegboyega Oyetola, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, appealed to residents of Ile-Ife. She called for support for the APC governorship candidate in the August 15 election and for President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
Furthermore, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, applauded the First Lady. He described the initiative as timely and capable of improving livelihoods across communities.
The traditional ruler said the Renewed Hope Initiative reflected the administration’s commitment to uplifting the less privileged. He added that genuine empowerment should target the needy.
