Deyci Alejandra Omaña Ortiz entered the Colombian Senate on Monday after her election victory. The 33-year-old former adult film performer, known publicly as Amaranta Hank, joined the left-wing Historic Pact party as a senator from Norte de Santander.
Ortiz began her career as a journalist. She entered the adult film industry in 2017 and left it two years later to pursue politics. She won election in March on the party’s closed list.
Ortiz campaigned for rights of adult-content creators. She pushed for social security, legal safeguards against exploitation, and an end to stigma.
“These women have been unprotected by the state because, due to misinformation, prejudice and double standards, no one has declared to regulate it,” she said in a campaign video.
She also addressed critics who questioned her background. “Why can’t a woman who was in the adult industry aspire to a popularly elected office?” Ortiz asked. She cited examples of former performers who entered politics elsewhere.
“My experience allowed me to understand inequality, the struggle for freedom and the popular economy, arguments that I now promise to bring directly into legislative debate,” she added.
Ortiz pledged to fight discrimination and promote mental health support. She called for measures to prevent sexual abuse and advance gender equity in digital labor platforms.
“The problem is that society consumes adult films but denies us the possibility of speaking in spaces of power,” she stated.
After her swearing-in, she expressed gratitude. “I feel embraced by my people,” Ortiz said. She noted ongoing political changes. “There is a political transformation underway that still has a long way to go but the important thing is that it has already begun in some way.”
