Tottenham Hotspur defeated Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday to secure a first league win at the venue since April 2018.
The first half produced few clear chances. Both sides struggled to create openings in rainy conditions. Chelsea controlled more possession yet failed to test Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky. Meanwhile, Tottenham under Roberto De Zerbi kept a solid shape and limited the home side.
The breakthrough arrived in the 77th minute. Mateus Fernandes swung in a corner from the left. Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, making his first Premier League start in place of the injured Emiliano Martinez, punched the ball backwards under pressure from Jan Paul van Hecke. The ball crossed the line for an own goal. Tottenham led 1-0.
Three minutes later Cole Palmer received a second yellow card and was sent off. Earlier Palmer had been booked after reacting strongly to a handball by Mateus Fernandes that stopped a Chelsea break. Players from both teams then became involved in a brief melee.

Later Palmer stood on the ankle of Conor Gallagher after the midfielder won possession. Referee Chris Kavanagh showed the second yellow followed by a red card. Chelsea played the final stages with 10 men.
In the 87th minute Mathys Tel collected the ball on the left, drove forward, skipped past Maxence Lacroix and drilled a low shot into the bottom corner past Penders. The goal made the score 2-0 and ended the contest.
The victory marked Tottenham’s second successive Premier League win and their first away success of the season. It moved them up the table. For Chelsea under Xabi Alonso the defeat was their first at home this campaign. The result left the Blues in fourth place pending other matches.
Tottenham had previously won just once in 41 league visits to Stamford Bridge since 1990. The visitors controlled the key moments after a subdued start and capitalised on Chelsea errors late in the game.
