EPL: Man United’s Lammens Wins Premier League Signing of the Season Award

Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens earned the Premier League Transfer of the Season award after a standout debut campaign. The 23-year-old Belgian transformed the Red Devils’ defense following his deadline-day arrival last summer.

Manchester United signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp in September 2025 for an initial fee of around £18 million. The club moved quickly on deadline day after other targets fell through. Lammens signed a five-year contract and stepped into the first team after Andre Onana’s loan departure.

The young goalkeeper made 32 Premier League appearances. He kept eight clean sheets and recorded 79 saves. Lammens led the league by preventing 6.5 goals more than expected, according to performance data. United lost only four matches with him in goal.

Journalists from The Athletic voted Lammens as the Premier League Signing of the Season in their 2025/26 awards. They highlighted his consistency and value. Separately fans chose him for the official Barclays Transfer of the Season award ahead of other nominees including Rayan Cherki and Viktor Gyokeres.

Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox and director of recruitment Christopher Vivell received credit for identifying the talent. Lammens earned comparisons to Thibaut Courtois, which supporters embraced as he steadied the backline.

Lammens earned a call-up to Belgium’s senior squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. His performances helped Manchester United finish strongly in the league table. The award confirmed the signing as one of the smartest deals of the campaign.
