Arsenal recovered from an early setback to defeat Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. The result kept the home side on a perfect start to the season.
Chelsea forward Morgan Rogers struck first. He volleyed home after just 77 seconds following a free kick to silence the home crowd. Arsenal pressed for a response. A potential equaliser from Riccardo Calafiori was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.
Then Kai Havertz levelled the score. The Germany international collected a pass from Declan Rice and drove a low shot past goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the 25th minute. Pedro Neto later struck the post for Chelsea before the interval.
Arsenal took the lead early in the second half. Christos Tzolis played a pass into the box. Havertz dummied the ball and Martin Odegaard lashed it into the net in the 50th minute. David Raya later produced a fine save to deny Estevao as Chelsea sought an equaliser.
The victory left Arsenal with three wins from three matches and nine points. They remained level with Manchester City at the top of the table. Chelsea suffered their first defeat under coach Xabi Alonso and sat on six points.
Havertz scored for the third time in the Premier League against his former club. Arsenal extended their unbeaten league run against Chelsea.
