Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Anfield on Tuesday. The result sent Liverpool into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup and eliminated Tottenham from the competition.
Both teams made multiple changes for the third-round tie. Alexis Mac Allister opened the scoring for Liverpool in the 21st minute. He collected a loose ball and fired into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Cody Gakpo then doubled the advantage in the 54th minute. He received a pass and struck a low shot past Tottenham goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
Tottenham responded when Conor Gallagher headed in from close range in the 69th minute. He converted a corner from Mateus Fernandes to reduce the deficit.

Dominik Szoboszlai entered as a substitute and sealed the win in the first minute of stoppage time. He controlled a pass from Cody Gakpo on his chest and volleyed the ball into the net from 25 yards.
Tottenham created several chances during the match but failed to convert them fully. Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili made important saves to preserve the lead.
Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola watched his rotated side progress. Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi saw his team exit the competition after a difficult start to the season against Premier League opponents.
The victory marked Liverpool’s place in the round of 16 for another season. Tottenham’s run at Anfield remained without a win in 15 years.
