David Ibiyeomie, founder of Salvation Ministries, criticised the recent restriction on preaching in public buses. He argued that Christians should enjoy the same freedom to practise their faith publicly as Muslims.
He spoke during a church service and described the move as misplaced. He said the government should focus on insecurity, poverty and other national challenges instead of limiting gospel preaching.
Ibiyeomie stated that Christians should not face limits when other groups use loudspeakers in public. “Are you aware that they said they should stop preaching in buses? That’s a stupid law. I will not be alive to see Christ being humiliated. Since they allowed Muslims to use microphones, then Christians will preach anywhere,” he said.
Furthermore, he maintained that believers hold a constitutional right to preach freely anywhere in the country. He warned against policies that could create tension.
Ibiyeomie also accused some church leaders of silence. He said many remained quiet because of political ties. “Go and ask your president if I’ve taken one dime from him. You can’t take money from a man and still talk to him. There are killings everywhere, nobody is talking,” he added.
He noted that Nigeria ranked among the poorest nations yet little discussion followed. He contrasted the current silence with louder criticism in previous years.
In addition, he declared that Nigeria would never become an Islamic nation. “If you want peace as one Nigeria, practice your religion and let us practice our Christianity,” he stated.
Ibiyeomie urged authorities to abandon the restriction. He said such laws risked chaos if promoted further.
