The West African Examinations Council appointed Dr Amos Josiah Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer. He assumed the position on Friday at the council’s international headquarters in Accra, Ghana.
Dangut previously served as Head of National Office for WAEC Nigeria for nearly three years. The council confirmed his elevation earlier at its 74th Annual Council Meeting held in Accra. He takes over leadership of the regional examination body that serves English-speaking West African countries.
Meanwhile, WAEC Nigeria named Mr S.D. Kum as the new Head of National Office. Kum previously held the post of Senior Deputy Registrar and Head of Test Administration. Both appointments took effect on the same day.
Dangut joined WAEC in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar. He rose through various roles in test development, examination security, branch control and zonal coordination before becoming Head of National Office in 2023. He hails from Bokkos Local Government Area in Plateau State.
Plateau State Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang congratulated Dangut on the elevation. In a statement signed by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr Gyang Bere, the governor described the appointment as well deserved and a proud moment for Plateau State and Nigeria.
Mutfwang praised Dangut as an illustrious son of the state. He noted the new Registrar’s competence, integrity and commitment to educational development. The governor expressed confidence that Dangut would strengthen WAEC operations and uphold high standards in examination administration across the region.
The council continues its work of conducting the West African Senior School Certificate Examination and related assessments under the new leadership.
