South African singer Tyla Laura Seethal, known professionally as Tyla, saw the Lagos stop on her APOP World Tour disappear from the public schedule on Thursday.
The December 22 performance in Nigeria no longer appears on the official list of dates. Cape Town and Johannesburg shows remain listed. No public statement came from Tyla or her team explaining the change.
Tyla announced the 34-date APOP World Tour on July 27. The run supports her sophomore album and includes stops across Europe, North America and Africa. Lagos was set as the first African date, with the venue listed as to be announced.
Fans initially welcomed the news. However, a wave of opposition quickly followed on social media platforms.
The backlash linked the concert to the death of Nigerian national Chika Simon Ibeh, also identified as Ibeh Chika Simon, during a police operation in Cape Town on July 23. South African authorities opened an investigation after a post-mortem showed multiple bruises and abrasions.
Nigerian diplomat Ninikanwa Okey-Uche said her country was deeply appalled by reports of the police tactics. Meanwhile, social media users in Nigeria called for a boycott of the Lagos show.
Popular Nigerian social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, stated: “There will be no Tyla show in Nigeria. It is not happening.” He directed the message to organisers and promoters.
Author and relationship adviser Solomon Buchi said: “Tyla is scheduled to perform in Nigeria this December, and that show must not take place.” He added that the singer had not publicly addressed the reported attacks.
Media personality Do2dtun questioned the promoter and called on Nigerian immigration authorities to deny visas to Tyla and her team.
Multiple reports and screenshots showed the Lagos date removed from the visible public schedule. Fan accounts noted the update amid ongoing calls for cancellation. Some posts referenced safety concerns, including reported threats.
As of Friday morning, Tyla and her representatives had issued no formal confirmation or reason for the removal. The rest of the tour schedule continues as previously announced.
