President Bola Ahmed Tinubu retained Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election. The All Progressives Congress made the announcement on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.
Party leaders gathered as President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political and Other Matters, Hon. Ibrahim Masari, submitted the completed INEC nomination forms. The forms named President Tinubu as the presidential candidate and Senator Kashim Shettima as the vice presidential candidate.
APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda received the forms during the ceremony. Senior party figures attended, including Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman Senator Hope Uzodimma and governors from several states.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka confirmed the ticket. “The presidential candidate of the party is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and our Vice Presidential candidate is Senator Kashim Shettima,” Morka stated.
This decision ended months of speculation about a possible replacement. The party submitted the details before the INEC deadline on July 11.
Vice President Kashim Shettima served as Borno State governor before he joined the 2023 ticket. He played a key role in the 2023 campaign and supported President Tinubu’s bid from the start. The retention maintained the Muslim-Muslim ticket that brought the APC victory in 2023.
Party sources indicated the move strengthened northern support and party unity. President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima continued to advance the Renewed Hope Agenda together, according to APC statements.
The development set the stage for the 2027 polls as the APC predicted a strong performance at the election.
