The Commissioner for Finance in Ondo State, Omowumi Isaac, is under investigation by the police over alleged criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, threat to life, and assault.
However, security sources in the state told SaharaReporters that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is mounting pressure on the police to discontinue questioning of the commissioner over the allegations.
According to sources, Governor Aiyedatiwa is reportedly opposed to the commissioner being questioned over alleged financial misconduct in the state, despite the fact that her invitation does not involve an investigation into state finances.
SaharaReporters reported on Monday that the Nigeria Police Force had launched an investigation into Mrs. Isaac.
In a formal “Letter of Invitation” dated April 7, 2026 and seen by SaharaReporters, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Monitoring Unit directed the commissioner to report to the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, April 15, 2024, to answer for the allegations.
The invitation, signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Mayamba Magomya Aliya on behalf of the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit, revealed that the commissioner’s name “featured prominently” in a petition currently under investigation.
The police document detailed a litany of serious charges that the Ondo cabinet member is expected to address.
“This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Attempted Murder, Threat to Life, Assault and Causing Grievous Bodily Harm reported to the Inspector General of Police in which your name featured prominently,” the letter read.
The summons is being executed under the legal framework of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.
“This invitation is in pursuant to section 53 (2)(a) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015. Your cooperation in this regards (sic) would be highly appreciated, please,” the police stated.
“Ondo State finance commissioner Omowumi Isaac is under interrogation but Governor Aiyedatiwa is pressuring the police to stop questioning her over financial shenanigans in the state
According to the police, the interview with the Head of the IGP Monitoring Unit is intended to “shed more light on the allegations.”
While the specific details of the incident leading to the alleged “attempted murder” and “grievous bodily harm” remain sketchy, the document confirms that the petition was significant enough to catch the direct attention of the IGP’s office in Abuja.
The Ondo State Government and the Ministry of Finance have yet to issue an official reaction to the police summons. It remains unclear if Mrs. Isaac will honour the invitation in Abuja on Wednesday or seek a legal injunction to stall the process.
