Prominent Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi declared that nobody could stop him from visiting any part of Nigeria. Gumi made the statement in response to backlash over his recent trip to Ibadan in Oyo State.
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi spoke during interactions following his participation in the Southern Nigerian Ulama Summit. He visited Ibadan on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, where he served as a special guest and speaker. Gumi stressed that he acted independently and received no invitation from any Muslim group or individual in the South-West.
Gumi fired back at critics who raised concerns about his movements. He asked rhetorically, “Can anybody stop me from going anywhere in Nigeria?” Gumi maintained that as a Nigerian citizen, he possessed the right to travel freely within the country. He added that no one held the power to restrict his movements.
The visit sparked outrage from some groups who accused Gumi of advancing certain agendas in the region. Despite the criticism, Gumi proceeded with his engagements. He clarified that his presence aimed at scholarly discussions rather than political or divisive activities.
